Lupus is an autoimmune disease which can affect numerous areas of the human body. Areas commonly affected include joints, skin, lungs, kidneys, and brain. Most cases of Lupus occur in women under 50 years of age. Women of color are 2-3 times more likely to suffer from Lupus than Caucasians.<\/span><\/h4>\n

        Is Lupus a genetic disease?\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n

        No, Lupus is not a genetic disease. There are certain gene variations that can increase a persons risk of developing an autoimmune disease like Lupus. However, it is important to remember that just because someone may have these gene variations does not mean that they will definitely develop Lupus. Important factors that affect “gene expression”<\/strong> play a significant role and are discussed below. Your genes are not your destiny.<\/span><\/h4>\n
